Mother’s Day Event at Bear Cottage, Manly
On 10 May 2015, our ladies team organised a “Mother’s Day Event” at Bear Cottage, Manly which is the only children’s hospice in NSW. Established in 2001, Bear Cottage provides support, respite and end-of-life care for children with life-limiting conditions. Children stay with their families at Bear Cottage 24 hours a day, so they to receive specialised paediatric palliative care in a warm homelike environment. http://www.bearcottage.chw.edu.au/home.php#/care-and-comfort
This special event was dedicated to seven mothers who were staying along with their children at the Bear Cottage on the day. Aim of the event was to offer the support of our volunteers and the ARO community to those self-sacrificing mothers, who are caring for their children with life-limiting conditions.
After months of coordination and meeting with Bear Cottage clinical staff, ARO ladies team put together a special day by providing complimentary Mediterranean catering for the mothers. Outdoor deck was nicely decorated for the special day, and hampers specifically designed for mothers were also given out to pamper them. Spirits were high on the day, and the overall experience turned out a be an unforgettable memory for those who attend.
Our special thanks go to Bear Cottage staff; including Ann-Marie Perry (Clinical Nurse Specialist), Bronwen Simmons (Community Relations Manager), and Sandy Coombs (Sydney Children’s Hospital palliative care team) who worked with us on this project.
Our organisation would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank our function sponsor Mrs Fatma Tas, managing director of Fatma’s Anatolian Kitchen, for her generous contribution to this special event. http://www.fatmas.kitchen/
Another acknowledgement goes out to Mrs Sarah Chemaissem, who prepared a remarkable cake that put smiles on every face at the function.
