ARO University Iftar
As part of its youth activities, Australian Relief Organisation delivered an iftar dinner for university students. For the occasion, an iftar dinner for over a hundred people was held in Bellevue Reception, Bankstown. Held on 27 June 2016, the iftar dinner was attended by the youth as well as directors, advisors, coordinators, volunteers and guests of the Australian Relief Organisation.
MC for the event was Gunay Ada, who shared his personal ARO experiences in Africa with the audience at his opening speech. Next, ARO President Ahmet Aydogan welcomed and congratulated the youth for their involvement in charitable activities. Detailing our operations, our administration officer Ali Said Ozcelik shared a power point presentation and a video clip with the audience. Ozcelik mentioned that he is delighted to see the growing number of youth volunteers in various ARO activities this year.
Right after, Gabriel Moussa reflected on his recent PNG trip to distribute iftars and food packs which were collected by the ARO in Australia. Guest speaker of the night was Mamtimin Ala, who is currently the Asylum Seeker Services Program Manager for the Settlement Services International. Ala expressed the meaning and importance of charity to the audience with examples from the refugee statistics around the world and the significance of bringing peace to world in times of crisis.
On the floor reflections section, our advisor Sam Jackson shared his personal notes about his charity trip to Cambodia with the ARO delegation in November 2015. With his inspirational speech, Jackson expressed his gratitude to ARO community for their self sacrificing efforts. Finally our advisor Haneef Bismi encouraged the youth for volunteering in crucial humanitarian projects. At the end of the program, the youth group handed over a cheque of their Ramadan Appeal proceeds to our advisor Amro Abdelkarim.
