Qurban Appeal 2019
What is Qurban?
Qurbani or Udhiyya refers to sacrifice of a specific animal, offered by a specific person, on specific days to seek God’s pleasure and reward. Literally meaning sacrifice and/or the act of bringing one closer to God, the practice of qurbani can be traced back to Prophet Abraham (pbuh). For Muslims, this tradition commemorates the salvation of Prophet Ishmael (pbuh) with a ram sent from Paradise. In a deeper sense, it also symbolises that believers can sacrifice anything in order to worship God, comply with His orders and gain His consent.
In Islamic law, qurbani is the tradition of sacrificing a livestock animal during Eid ul-Adha. This yearly ritual also marks the completion of Hajj pilgrimage, where Muslims sacrifice an animal (such as a sheep, ram, cow, ox, camel or goat) from the morning of the 10th to sunset of the 12th Dhul-Hijjah (12th lunar month of the Islamic calendar). To gain God’s pleasure and consent, believers then distribute the qurbani meat to poor and needy worldwide. This year, the qurbani period will be between 11 and 13 August 2019 during Eid ul Adha.
Our Qurban Campaigns
Australian Relief Organisation has been running qurban campaigns since 2013.
Carrying out distribution on behalf of our donors, we deliver qurban meat to needy locals across the globe. Thanks to your support, we delivered meat across Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, Senegal, Gambia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia over the past six years.
Delivered in poverty stricken regions, your qurban meat caused great joy and happiness among locals. To witness the distribution process of your qurban meat, our volunteer delegations travelled to remote corners of the world. There, they shared the happiness of thousands as a result of your donations.
