Ramadan Appeal 2019

ARO Ramadan Appeal

Ramadan for Everyone

Ramadan signifies reflection, spiritual growth, compassion and charity. It is also a Blessed Month to share our food with family, friends, neighbours and less fortunate communities across the globe.

To facilitate international food sharing, Australian Relief Organisation has been running Ramadan Campaigns since 2013. This campaign is also crucial in a world where more than 1 billion people live under extreme poverty and suffer malnutrition.

Between 2013 and 2018, we shared your iftar dinner and food pack donations with 56,396 locals in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Highlights of our 2016, 2017 and 2018 Ramadan Appeals can be viewed on the following links:

Zakat al Fitr and Zakat al Mal

Since its foundation, Australian Relief Organisation has been collecting Zakat al Fitr and Zakat al Mal.
According to Islamic tradition, Zakat al-Fitr is compulsory on every person, regardless of age or financial standing, whether male or female and including small children.

While Zakat al-Fitr is regarded as a token of appreciation by believers for observing their obligatory fast during Ramadan, it also provides the poor people financial means to celebrate the festival of breaking of the fast (Eid al-Fitr) along with the rest of the community.

According to Islamic tradition, the Zakat-ul-Fitr can be given as approx 3 kgs of meal / barley / dates / cheese / raisins or the cash equivalent.

As previous years, you can donate your Zakat al Fitr through our organisation at $15 per person (including small children) on the link provided https://aro.org.au/ongoing-project-donations/

Regarded as a blessed period, Ramadan is also a month when most Muslims pay they Zakat al Mal. One of the five pillars of Islam, Zakat al Mal is a religious obligation for all Muslims who have the minimum wealth amount called Nisab. (Nisab is a Muslim's net worth which needs to exceed a certain threshold in order to be liable to pay zakat. Nisab amount is one of the following: 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver, or equivalent money or merchandise, 40 sheep or goats or 30 cattle or 5 camels, or 653 kgs of grains and fruits.)

Our organisation also accepts Zakat al Mal donations, which is calculated as a 2.5% tax of a Muslim’s total savings and wealth above the minimum threshold amount of Nisab.

Your Zakat al Mal and Zakat al Fitr proceeds provide crucial funding to our global orphan sponsorship program. Should you wish to donate your Zakat al Mal, use the following link for online donations and bank transfers: https://aro.org.au/ongoing-project-donations
